Barcelonais famous for its fabulous architecture, its shopping and unique atmosphere,but what about the kids? Unlike many major cities, there is a wealth ofactivities for younger people to enjoy.

The Aquarium, in Port Vell, offers more than 11,000 seacreatures to see. Its Oceanarium, the only one of its kind in Europe,features a fantastic transparent tunnel, through which visitors can stroll asif they were taking a walk along the ocean bed, taking in everything from seaanemones to huge sharks. Elsewhere, mini aquaria allow visitors the chance of aclose-up view of smaller sea creatures which have adapted in astounding ways totheir surroundings.

Animal Action

Barcelonascentral park, the Parc de la Ciutadella, is a fabulous area to visit. Itshighlight is undoubtedly the fabulous zoo. First opened in 1892, the zoo ishome to more than 4,000 animals from 400 species. Here, visitors can seegorillas and dolphins as well as many exotic reptiles and tropical birds. The zoooffers a host of activities for a great day out. The miniature train takesvisitors around the area, or you can hire an electric buggy. Pony rides areavailable, as well as many activities for younger children, such as the infantzoo. There are many restaurants and bars to relax in, too. The rest of thebeautiful park should not be missed, with its beautifully landscaped gardensand stunning monuments.

The best way to see the city is by tour bus. Its manyattractions are quite far from each other, and tackling a tour on foot will behard on younger feet. The hop-on, hop-off bus is an ideal way to see thesights, either viewing from the open top, or getting off to visit your chosendestination. In contrast to the bustle and congestion of the city, Barcelonas beaches are acalm delight. The closest to the city, Barceloneta, is a 20-minute walk fromLas Ramblas, but a Metro station is close by. The beaches are also home to someinteresting architecture, plus many bars and restaurants in which to recuperateafter a hard days relaxation. All along the four beaches, there is much forthe whole family to enjoy, from windsurfing and kite surfing to snorkelling, orjust splashing about in the blue Mediterranean Sea.
