The Powis Stitcher was released by PowisParker Inc. as part of their studio photobook binding system. Thestudio photobook system offers a complete solution that allows smallphotographers, retail locations and image labs to quickly and easilyproduce photobooks on demand. However, binding photo books with highgloss printed papers can often cause a lot of problems. To solve theseproblems, the Powis Stitcher was introduced. This review will take aquick look the features / capabilities, limitations and construction ofthe Powis stitcher.

Features:

The Powis stitcher is not a true stitching machine in the sense that itdoes not actually uses spool wire. Instead, it is actually a modifiedheavy duty electric stapler. It is rated for stapling between three andthirty pages. However, the actual number of pages that you are able tostaple is going to greatly depend on the type of paper that you areusing. With twenty pound copy paper you could staple far more thanthirty pages. However, with thick photopapers even thirty pages may bea stretch.

The Powis stitcher offers a few great features that you don't find on astandard heavy duty electric stapler. It includes a heavy duty metalbook table. This specialty book table is ideal for use with landscapeoriented documents. It also has convenient markings to help you knowwhere to place the staples when binding photobooks and hard coverdocuments with your Fastback studio photobook system.

Depending on the type of paper that you are using and the number ofsheets that you are binding, the staples may not cinch completely flatwith this system. There is a setting to adjust the force with which thestapler operates. However, for best results, the staples need to becrimped closed. The Fastback Stitcher includes a pair of specialcrimping pliers that are designed to cinch the staples so that they aretight and completely flat. This helps to ensure that the quality of thebind for your photobooks is superior.

Limitations:

The primary limitation of the Powis stitcher is its binding capacity.Unfortunately, the stapler is simply limited in the number of sheetsthat it can penetrate. However, if you use the premium staples providedby Fastback you should be able to increase the capacity of the staplerby about twenty percent over the performance you would get fromstandard staples.

A heavier duty electric stapler might be able to completely cinch thestaples even when dealing with heavy photo papers. However, the powisstitcher cannot and thus the crimping pliers are necessary. If youdon't use the crimping pliers, it is possible that your pages will beloose in your bound book or that the staples may not be completelyhidden. This is a somewhat time consuming step in binding documentswith the studio photobook system but it is a necessary one.

Construction:

The Powis Parker Fastback stitcher is extremely well built. It has aheavy duty metal book table and has plastic housing around the staplinghead. The stapling unit is actually produced by Rapid (one of thehighest quality electric stapler manufacturers on the market). Withthis in mind, I have no real concerns about the construction of thismachine.

Recommendation:

The powis stitcher is an integral part of the Fastback studio photobookbinding system. It allows you to bind photo books with any type ofglossy paper, even heavy duty papers that won't work in most perfectbind or thermal binding systems. The staples produced by this machineare completely hidden from sight and produce some of the highestquality on demand hard covers that I have seen anywhere.

Asa divorced woman, I now marvel at those who are able to createpassionate, loving, long-term relationships. From my studies with booksand the school of hard knocks, I believe that one of the most importantingredients in relationships, of all kinds, is appreciation. What is Appreciation? Appreciation is likea much-needed rainfall to a farmer's crops that have been withering ina drought. Just as the crops start to shrivel and die without water, human relationships also start to feel brittle without a steadyapplication of the nourishing, even life-giving, impacts ofappreciation. The dictionary defines appreciation as "a favorablecritical estimate," "sensitive awareness" and "an expression ofadmiration, approval or gratitude." When you appreciate someone, youare tuned into a positive quality of another human being and expressyour gratitude for it. ...
