NBC Cancels Community After Five Seasons


After five seasons of absurdist, education-themed comedy, NBC has canceled Community, USA Today reports. Many of the actors and actresses who played the adults attending Greendale Community College mourned the shows demise on Twitter.

The shows star, Joel McHale a disbarred lawyer named Jeff Winger kept things short:

Yvette Nicole Brown, who played the conservative Christian single mother Shirley Bennett on the show, wrote,

Gillian Jacobs, the intelligent, yet often immature, Britta Perry on the show, thanked the shows fans and its creator, Dan Harmon, and hashtagged the Greendale flags catchphrase.

Former cast members Chevy Chase and Donald Glover have not commented.

Harmon, who had a rocky career with the show especially during its fourth season when he was replaced as its showrunner was reflective. Twitter isnt big enough to hold my condolences and more importantly my gratitude to the best fans, cast and crew in TV history, he wrote. Excelsior.

Harmon told Rolling Stonein March that he thought there was a 50-50 chance for a new season of Community. I wouldnt want it any other way now, he said. Being a sure thing means Id start thinking about not wanting to do it. I want it to be a surprise. I want them to fire me again, to promote me to head of NBC, I want them to cancel the show, to pick it up for 100 more episodes. Its exhilarating. Its the Golden Age of TV, my friend, which is another way of saying TV is dying.
