Peter Travers on 22 Jump Street: I Did Laugh My Ass Off

Its a weekend of sequels on At the Movies, and while Peter Travers highly recommends checking out the spectacular animated How to Train Your Dragon 2 , he knows youre more likely to check out the latest big summer blockbuster comedy: 22 Jump Street . 22 Jump Street and More Movies You Have to See This Summer Sure, the films context wreaks of Hollywoods ridiculous attempts to rake in big bucks: The follow-up to the 2012 big-screen reboot of the Eighties television hit 21 Jump Street , whichpaired Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill as undercover cops who infiltrate a high school. But as Travers says, 22 Jump Street is almost meta in the way it laughs at the whole idea of sequels, and how we as an audience never tire of seeing the same damn movie over and over and over again. This time around, perpetually undercover cops Schmidt (Hill) and Jenko (Tatum) find themselves in a new office located across the street from the old headquarters at 22 Jump Street, get it? and are given an assignment t...

Lorde Plays It Cool With Royals on Fallon

Lorde made her American television debut last night on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon where she performed two songs off her debut album Pure Heroine .The 16-year-old opened with her first single, and current hit, "Royals." The cool performance included a level of drama with minimal lighting, just Lorde in a white dress backed by a drummer and keyboardist. Moby, Lorde Headline Seattle's Decibel Fest As a web-only bonus, she also performed a haunting version"White Teeth Teens," a song that's rich in self-awareness, but much more upbeat than the dreamy, electronic vibe that lines her album.

See Tom Cruise Reenact Entire Film Career With James Corden

James Corden and Tom Cruise reenacted scenes from Cruises extensive filmography on Wednesday, bringing brief snippets of Top Gun , Rain Man , Risky Business , Vanilla Sky and many more to life on The Late Late Show . The pair moved at a blistering pace, changing outfits and hairdos in rapid succession as they romped through three decades of pop culture. Most of the transitions between films went smoothly. During the segue to A Few Good Men , Cruise appeared to forget to remove his Eyes Wide Shut wig,but the crowd cheered furiously as he pulled it off. The actors showed extra love to a few of Cruises most famous roles. The pair paid homage to every entry in the Mission: Impossible series, pretending to hang from the ceiling, race motorcycles, pull off cardboard masks, climb the side of a building and board a moving airplane. Jerry Maguire also earned special treatment; as Cruise and Corden shouted their way through the show me the money scene, Cuba Gooding Jr. made a cameo to critiqu...

SNL Recap: Tina Fey Opens New Season With Help From Aaron Paul

Ever since Kenan Thompson pointed out that the number 39 looks like a foam finger poking a butt, Ive had high hopes for this 39th season. Yes, Saturday Night Live lost no fewer than three of its best players this year. But each of those guys had a good run eight years for Bill Hader and Jason Sudeikis, eleven for Fred Armisen and their recurring characters were starting to feel a little self-congratulatory. Its time for a shake-up. Sometimes , SNL just needs to be poked in the butt. Cold Open: Obamacare. Not surprisingly, we open with a political sketch. Maybe its just absence making the heart grow fonder, but Jay Pharaohs Obama impression seems to have gotten funnier. Those clipped sentences are taking on their own sort of comic rhythm. Jordan Peele is still the Obama to beat, but Pharaoh is gaining ground. In this sketch, Obama brings ordinary Americans to the podium to testify as to how the Affordable Care Act will improve their lives. Instead, each of them successively blames i...

The Debt

A Nazi-hunting thriller deepens into a meditation on conscience in The Debt . We watch the same characters over two time periods. In 1997, Mossad agent Rachel Singer (Helen Mirren) is being honored for her heroism 30 years prior for killing Vogel (Jesper Christensen), the notorious surgeon of Birkenau. But did she? Stephan (Tom Wilkinson), Rachels ex-husband and partner in the mission, informs her that David (Ciarn Hinds), the third member of the team, has just killed himself. And so director John Madden ( Shakespeare in Love ) flashes back to the past to show us what really transpired when young Rachel (Jessica Chastain), Stephan (Marton Csokas) and David (Sam Worthington) captured Vogel in East Berlin. These scenes exude shivering suspense as well as sexual tension. Chastain (a nifty match-up with Mirren) is a live wire, and her scenes with Csokas and Worthington have a spark the later scenes lack. No matter. The Debt holds you in its grip. Related The Best and Worst Movies of 2011...

Louie Recap: The Late Show With Louie?

Lets get this out of the way right up top: seeing David Lynch pretend to host a talk show within the universe of Louie feels like something out of a David Lynch movie. Although Louis C.K.s show often employs the casually surreal tone of Lynchs oeuvre, having the director himself on his show is a major coup, and an unexpected delight. As last we left Louie, in the initial installment of a three-part episode, he had nailed a Tonight Show segment and was in the process of being vetted to take over for a soon-retiring David Letterman. This stroke of good fortune, however, remained bittersweet, tainted by the realization of what Louies future might behold if this new opportunity didnt work out. As mentioned in my previous recap, the golden years of comedians who never quite pop can be some seriously murky territory. Although that first episode was rooted in reality, based on the actual Louis C.K.s experience of going viral on Conans show in 2009, we have now left the realm of reality (as ...

The Black Keys Headed to Saturday Night Live

The Black Keys will serve as Saturday Night Live s musical guest onMay 10th, just three days prior to the release of their eighth studio album, Turn Blue . The episode, hosted by Charlize Theron, will feature tracks from that Danger Mouse-produced LP, and may include the psychedelic slow-jam Turn Blue and the hypnotic Fever. How the Black Keys Found a Deep New Groove on Psychedelic Turn Blue We are always trying to push ourselves when we make a record not repeat our previous work but not abandon it either, drummer Patrick Carney said in a statement about the album. On this record, we let the songs breathe and explored moods, textures and sounds. Were excited for the world to hear Turn Blue . On May 16th, the band will headline the Hangout Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama. After that, theyll hit the road for an extensive summer tour of European festivals. Their Saturday Night Live appearance will be the bands third on the show and first since 2011. Meanwhile, St. Vincent (Annie Clark...

Tracy Morgan Sues Walmart Over Fatal Crash

UPDATE: Tracy Morgan has settled a lawsuit with Walmart nearly one year after a car crash that critically injured him and killed his friend James McNair. Details of the settlement were undisclosed, according to The Associated Press ,but Walmart called the settlement amicable. Kevin Roper, the Walmart truck driver involved in the crash, still faces several criminal charges in state court. Tracy Morgan has filed a lawsuit against Walmart over the deadly car crash that killed his friend James McNair and left Morgan badly injured. See Where Tracy Morgan Ranks Among the 50 Funniest People Now THR reports that the comedian, along with three others, filed the suit on Thursday in the U.S. District Court in New Jersey. Walmart was careless and negligent in the ownership and operation of its motor vehicle, which caused Mr. Morgan to suffer severe personal injuries, the complaint reads. As a direct and proximate result of said collision, Mr. Morgan was caused to sustain severe painful bodily inj...

Modern-Day Scarface Remake Set in Los Angeles Gets Green Light

Perhaps the bloodiest rags-to-riches story in cinema history, the saga of Scarface has twice been shown on the silver screen, first with Paul Muni in the role of the criminallysavvy immigrant shooting his way to the American Dream, then 50 years later with Al Pacino portraying Tony Montana in the classic Brian De Palma-directed, Oliver Stone-pennedversion. Now, Universal has announced plans to bring the Scarface story to modern times with a new film penned by Straight Outta Compton screenwriter Jonathan Herman, The Hollywood Reporter writes. Director Pablo Larran, fresh off winning the Berlin International Film Festivals Jury Grand Prixfor his film The Club , will helm theremake, which will transplant the story to the present-day criminal underworld of Los Angeles (the 1932 and 1983 versions took place in Chicago and Miami, respectively). The project had long been in the works at Universal Training Day and End of Watch writer David Ayer reportedly submitted a script at one point ...

Monday Movie Bitching

Cloverfield , the jumbo hit last week, dropped nearly seventy percent in its second frame. Ouch! So much for the second coming of horror the digital version. Those of you who felt I slapped you in the face by saying there were problems with this re-imagining of 9/11 as a monster flick can at least admit that now I have company. The biggest shame for Cloverfield is coming in behind the lousy Meet the Spartans , the enfeebled Rambo and yikes the chick flick 27 Dresses . Did you watch the Screen Actors Guild awards last night? OK, if you didnt. Two TV hours provided about ten minutes of interest. But it might be the only awards show we see if the writers strike plods on. The single surprise was Ruby Dee winning Best Supporting Actress for American Gangster when the odds favored Cate Blanchett as Bob Dylan in Im Not There or Amy Ryan as a crack whore mom in Gone Baby Gone . Please, Cate was incredible. Best moment was There Will Be Blood winner Daniel Day Lewis (Ill drink your milk...

Mad Men Recap: Drive My Car

That fever really did a number on Don . Now hes refusing the goods at a brothel and telling Pete to stop cheating on his wife? Dont get me wrong, its not exactly a bad thing did you ever see him smile at Betty like he did before he violated Megan on the side of the highway? but after several seasons of philandering, this whole fidelity thing is going to take some getting used to. Now that Don is no longer the paradigm of the miserable suburban husband, Pete has unwittingly stepped into the role. True, Pete has been riding high professionally this season, but we always knew his arrogance would also be his downfall. In the long run, his business acumen is vital to SCDPs success, but after several episodes watching him embarrass Roger , it was rather pleasant seeing this cocky little prick cut down to size. Poor Little Rich Boy Despite the beautiful, adoring wife, the daughter, the partnership and the house in Connecticut, Pete still feels the need to expend his energy proving to the...

Daniel Craig Digs Up Dark Family Secrets in New Trailer for Whodunnit Knives Out

Daniel Craig plays a distinguished detective unweaving family deceit in the thrilling new trailer for Rian Johnsons black-comedy murder-mystery film Knives Out . Like the previous preview, the clip unfolds the basic plot: Craigs character, the sophisticated Benoit Blanc, steps in to investigate after author Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his mansion following his 85th birthday party. Suspecting foul play, Blanc and partner Troy Archer (Lakeith Stanfield) isolate each family member and grill them with questions about their potential motives from finance to business to a romantic affair. I have eliminated no suspects, Blanc intones. The family is truly desperate. When people get desperate, the knives come out. This is a twisted web, and we are not finished untangling it. Not yet. The trailer teases the tense and often hilarious interviews, including scenes with cast members Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon and Katherine...

Where to Invade Next

Has Michael Moore gone soft? You might think so, making a snap judgment of Where to Invade Next, a crazy-like-a-fox documentary hellbent on seeing the best in people. Other people. Not us Americans. Turns out we suck at practicing what we preach. So heres Moore, the proudly schlubby Michigan warrior, heading off to Europe to plant our flag in countries where folks know how to live. In other words, he intends to steal the good stuff and bring it home. Naive? For sure. Manipulative? You bet. Moores detractors see him as an arrogant fat cat passing himself off as the common man to nail easy targets. Even his supporters buy the arrogant part, but find as I do that Moore is just the pain in the ass we need in a crisis. Moores newfound mellow approach in Where to Invade Next is meant to disarm us. This is Big Mike the entertainer, not the provocateur of cinematic missiles such as Bowling for Columbine, Fahrenheit 9/11 and Sicko . Dont believe it. No laugh in this doc and there are plent...

Date Night

Heres proof that Tina Fey and Steve Carell could squeeze laughs out of a phone book. Josh Klausners script for Date Night , in which they play Phil and Claire Foster, a New Jersey couple trying to liven up their dull marriage with a glam date in the Big Apple, rivals the Yellow Pages for dry and utilitarian. And yet their teamwork turns it into comic bliss. Director Shawn Levy ( Night at the Museum ) tosses in a museum of clichs, from gun battles to car chases. Theres even an embarrassing strip-club sequence in which both stars get to bump and grind. And I havent even mentioned the star cameos: Kristen Wiig and Mark Ruffalo as soon-to-be divorcees from New Jersey; James Franco and Mila Kunis as the couple the Fosters impersonate to steal their reservation at a chic Tribeca restaurant; and Common and Jimmi Simpson as the hoods who want them dead. Best of all is Mark Wahlberg in a nifty bit of self-satire as a shirtless weapons expert. Still, if youre thinking all the star shine sounds l...

Solo: 5 Reasons This Star Wars Spinoff Stalled

Hollywood is a place of endless insecurity and uncertainty but over the last four decades, few things have been more of a sure thing than a Star Wars movie. Before this year, George Lucas saga of a Tatooinian boy with major daddy issues had produced 10 movies, and with the exception of 2008s forgotten animated spinoff Star Wars: The Clone Wars , each has been a box-office colossus. (Of the other nine, only Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones failed to be that years highest-grossing film. It was merely the third-highest of 2002.) That perspective helps put into sharp relief what a relative disappointment this weekends Solo has turned out to be. After initially being projected to snag anywhere from $130 million to $150 million, the Han Solo origin story starring Alden Ehrenreich as everyones favorite scruffy-looking nerf herder stalled at an estimated $103 million. Most blockbusters would be thrilled with such a haul; for the Star Wars empire, however, thats cause for concern....

Pride

There is so much inspired by a true story crap churned out in Hollywood that when the genuine article appears, its a shock. Such a movie is Pride , a Brit dramedy that is a crowd-pleaser in the best sense of the word. Even when its tugging hard at your heartstrings, you believe the damn thing. The facts are these: In 1984, the National Union of Mineworkers went on strike over pit closures, as well as Prime Minister Margaret Thatchers hard-line policies. The film, vibrantly directed by stage maestro Matthew Warchus ( Matilda ) from a script by Stephen Beresford, concerns the unlikely help the miners are offered by London gay and lesbian activists. Its Mark (the excellent Ben Schnetzer) who rallies the LGSM (Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners) to back the striking families by pointing out the parallels between the disenfranchised miners and the oppression felt by gays and lesbians under the heel of conservatism. Any resemblance between these groundbreakers and the battle for sexual civ...

Coach Carter

Despite its punishing length (135 minutes), this afternoon-TV special trying to pass as a real movie earns an extra half solely for Samuel L. Jackson, who brings his usual fire to the role of Ken Carter a real-life high-school basketball coach who benched his team for getting lousy grades. Director Thomas Carter gives every sports-drama cliche a chance to play. No bad idea is benched.

Faces Places Review: A Living Legend Delivers The Years Best, Most Beguiling Doc

Sheer perfection thats the phrase that springs to mind when describing the humanist miracle that is Faces Places, the years best and most beguiling documentary. Its also a testament to the talents of Agnes Varda, the pint-sized, 89-year-old goddess of New Wave French cinema, and JR, the lanky 34-year-old photographer and visual artist who teams up with the veteran filmmaker to chronicle French rural life. They drive around in his van, which doubles as a photo booth able to produce large-format prints all the better for plastering the works on the walls of farms, houses and buildings so their subjects can stare in wonder. As can we. Varda and her mischief-making partner in crime (whos always hiding behind sunglasses) memorialize these faces and places so, in her words, they dont fall into the hole of memory. In that sense, both artists are paying tribute to the power of the image, which is on transcendent and transporting display here. The enduring feminist in Varda emerges as the tea...

Why Creed Is the Greatest Underdog Movie Since Rocky

Youll never get bored with winning! Youll never get bored! Donald Trump If you want to understand why Donald Trump will never be President, watch the Rocky movies. Rocky Balboa is the greatest loser that cinema has ever known. A piddling Philly prizefighter who was considered a bum by the few people who knew his name, the battered bruiser didnt have to beat heavyweight champion Apollo Creed in order to fulfill his destiny as a blue-collar hero. But by going the distance and withstanding an unholy barrage of fists in the process the seemingly indomitable boxer proved his worth and earned himself the pride that had eluded him all his life. In doing so, Rocky became the rousing face of a country whod bloodied by Vietnam, Watergate, and a mess of other Nixon-era national embarrassments. Apocalypse Soon in Riotous First 10 Minutes of This Is the End

An apocalypse doesnt sound like much fun, but James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill and Jay Baruchel can still turn the end of the world into a good time. In This Is the End out today on Blu-ray and DVD the crew proved theres no one better with whom to tough out impending doom, and in this clip of the films first 10 minutes, Rogen and Baruchel link up and head to Francos pad for a riotous party. Rogen picks up Baruchel at the airport in Los Angeles, where the latter wants to immediately take care of a craving for Carls Jr. But Rogen is on a diet cleanse, preventing him from indulging in unhealthy foods though drinking and smoking weed are still more than OK. Gluten, on the other hand, is a topic of heated debate. The Doobie Brothers: Lighting Up With the Stars of This Is the End Rogen gives in, and the pals gorge on burgers and roll to Rogens spot, where hes set up a table of Baruchels favorite things: tons of green, Jay spelled in joints, a Volcano vaporizer, a Gandalf-style pipe a...

Alpha Review: Prehistoric Boy-Meets-Wolf Epic Is Genuinely Awe-Inspiring

Part wilderness survival tale, part prehistoric boy-meets-wolf love story and part American Museum of Natural History exhibit come to life, Albert Hughes rugged, rich epic feels just as out-of-time as its narrative of primitive hunters and their Canis lupus pals. Its a movie devoted to overwhelming viewers with vast, lush vistas of craggy cliffs, lightning-split skylines, endless snowy tundras, impossibly green forests and eye-popping auroras. ( Sweeping does not begin to describe the visuals here; it not only deserves to be seen on the biggest screen possible, it demands it.) Its subtitled in an unidentifiable pre-civilization language, when it bothers to give its mud-splattered characters dialogue at all. Its an old-fashioned spectacle that does not feature a superhero, unless you count an ancestor of mans best friend who fearlessly fights a sabre-toothed tiger. We know this takes place many centuries in the past, but watching this throwback-in-more-ways-than-one, you find yourself ...

Watch Bill Murrays Karaoke Cover of House of the Rising Sun

Bill Murray is a man of many talents, and we all know that sweet vocal stylings are among them. The actor was down in St. Augustine, Florida recently for the annual Caddyshack Charity Golf Game when he took the stage at his Murray Bros. Caddyshack Restaurant to deliver a masterful karaoke set, captured in all its glory by TMZ. See Where Bill Murray Ranks Among the 50 Funniest People Now Murray reportedly sang for about 45 minutes, backed by a live band on covers that included Van Morrisons Gloria and the Animals House of the Rising Sun, seen in this video. He even augmented his vocals with some tight tamborine work. Murray opened the Caddyshack -themed restaurant with his five brothers in 2001. His love of karaoke has been well documented, including the time he crashed a strangers karaoke party in New York, and his rendition of Roxy Musics More Than This also made for a powerful scene in Sofia Coppolas Lost in Translation .

George Lucas Hasnt Seen the New Star Wars Trailer

The incredible teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been viewed more than 60million times on YouTubesince it was posted on November 28th. However, none of those views belong to series creator George Lucas. When Page Sixasked the director what he thought of the first look at the continuing saga of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, Lucas revealed, I dont know anything about it. I havent seen it yet. Page Six also asked if he was curious about J.J. Abrams vision for the film, to which Lucas replied, Not really. However, it doesnt appear that Lucas is cold-shouldering his space opera film franchise after passing the Episode VII torch to Abrams. Instead, Lucas has a very traditional explanation for not seeing the trailer. Because its not in the movie theater. I like going to the movies and watching the whole thing there, Lucas said. I plan to see it when its released. Although not involved in the making of The Force Awakens , Lucas still serves as a creative consu...

Orson Welles Lost Film The Other Side of the Wind Unveils First Trailer

Netflix has released the first trailer for Orson Welles lost film The Other Side of the Wind , which the streaming service acquired after the late directors collaborators assembled the film over 40 years after the footage was shot. The Other Side of the Wind filmed between 1970 and 1977 and featuring a cast that includes filmmakers John Huston and Peter Bogdanovich and Welles then-girlfriend Oja Kodar arrives on the streaming service and select theaters on November 2nd. The film tells the story of grizzled director J.J. Jake Hannaford (Huston), who returns to Los Angeles after years in self-exile in Europe with plans to complete work on his own innovative comeback movie. Both a satire of the classic studio system and the New Hollywood that was shaking things up, Welless last artistic testament is a fascinating time capsule of a now-distant era in moviemaking as well as the long-awaited new work from an indisputable master, Netflix wrote of the movie. Deadline offers a breakdown of T...

Man of Steel Sequel Could Include Wonder Woman, the Flash

When Superman faces off with Batman in the sequel to Man of Steel , they may have some company: the roles of Wonder Woman and the Flash are reportedly being cast, too. Suggestions for Better Batmen Than Ben Affleck The magazine reports that Gal Gadot ( Fast and Furious ), Elodie Yung ( G.I. Joe: Retaliation ) and Olga Kurylenko ( Quantum of Solace ) are in the running for a female lead role described as tall, brunette, athletic and exotic, according to Variety . These descriptors fit Wonder Woman (though Variety sources say it could also describe a Bruce Wayne love-interest role). MTV reports that Jaimie Alexander ( Thor: The Dark World ) has hinted at having met with Warner Bros. about playing Wonder Woman, too. Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman in the still-untitled sequel, and Ben Affleck will play Batman news that sent the Internet into an anguished tizzy of hand-wringing when it emerged this summer. The superhero rumor mill suggests that the movie will also feature o...

The Voice Recap: Theyre Back!

The big question at the outset of Season Three of The Voice is how would the show up the ante and give viewers a reason not to switch to X Factor in hopeful anticipation of a Brit-Brit meltdown? The strategy seems to be bigger equals better. Starting with an epic three-night season premier of blind auditions, the judges Cee Lo Green , Christina Aguilera , Blake Shelton and Adam Levine will now cull the massive pool of hopefuls into four teams of 16 (up from 12 last season and eight originally), making the season longer, elimination rounds endless and competition more cutthroat. Mondays premiere demonstrated how the shows producers plan to combat what could easily develop into audience fatigue: teenage tears. Over the course of last season the show started listing ever so slightly towards the proven American Idol zone of milking the tragic backstory to raise the stakes in particular the constant mentions of Jesse Campbells past as a homeless single father living out of his car ...

The Golden Compass

The Catholic League thinks its anti-Catholic. Admirers of Philip Pullmans 1995 His Dark Materials trilogy, of which The Golden Compass is the first part, think Chris Weitzs film guts the backbone of the book. Me, I just think it blows. What does it matter if you spend millions on a movie love the talking, battling bears! if the effects are cheesy, the story runs off on tangents and after watching the movie fail utterly to be the next Lord of the Rings , you just want to go home. One wag said Nicole Kidman looked like a Botoxed Marilyn Monroe playing Mrs. Coulter, the slinky villainess who does terrible things to children to separate them from their souls, which take the form of furry animals called daemons. Are you with me? Didnt think so. Anyway, Kidman was way nastier in Margot at the Wedding . She and co-star Daniel ( 007 ) Craig strike as many sexual sparks as they did in The Invasion , which was none. The studio is threatening two sequels. Please make them stop.

Glee: The 3D Concert Movie

Confession: Im losing my religion when it comes to Glee . Ryan Murphys hit TV series produces so many highs, like Rachel and Kurts to-die-for duet on the Broadway set of Wicked , that the frequent lows can be forgiven even by non-Gleeks. Still, Im calling bullshit on this 3D concert movie. In June, most of the cast began a summer tour that would allow the fans to genuflect. You heard me. The movie plays like an evangelical prayer meeting, though Id hold the hallelujahs. The characters we came to admire as vulnerable misfits hit the stage like visiting royalty and with a nonstop perkiness that makes the Von Trapps look like manic-depressives. Lea Michele (Rachel), Amber Riley (Mercedes) and Darren Criss (Blaine) do the heavy vocal lifting. Others climb aboard the Auto-Tune express while the caffeinated camera zigzags madly across the stage, avoiding any singer whose lips dont match the words. The audience cheers wildly, no matter what. Even more problematic are the offstage interviews w...

New Moon

Swooning tweens of all ages and sexes will work themselves into a lather deciding whether to join Team Edward (thats sometimes-shirtless vampire Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson) or Team Jacob (thats perpetually shirtless werewolf Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner). Sign me up for Team Confused, since this is now the second film in Stephenie Meyers four-book Twilight saga that fails to ignite the flame of Meyers overheated prose. Catherine Hardwicke, who directed the first film, better caught the virginal yearning in Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), the high school girl torn between both monsters. Chris Weitz, the director of New Moon , pumps up the action as Jacob turns into an unconvincing digital wolf. I cant comment on the acting because I didnt catch Pattinson, Stewart and Lautner doing any. They basically primp and pose through the same humdrum motions they did before. Late in the film, a real actor, Michael Sheen ( Frost/Nixon ), shows up as the mind-reading Aro, of t...

Girls Recap: Crossing the Line

Theres a scene at the end of this weeks episode of Girls where Hannah finds herself on the business end of a speculum, having figured out the particular level of sexual hygiene practiced by her truly awful fuck buddy Adam (Level: zero). I was wondering about the stuff that gets up around the sides of condoms? Hannah inquires as she squirms in her hospital gown. The OB/GYN squints at her, befuddled. You mean the semen?, the doctor asks. I mean all of it, Hannah replies solemnly. The second ep is devoted almost entirely to the stuff that gets up around the sides of condoms (and the consequences thereof), but you get the feeling it really should have been more about Jessa . Boy, what is up with that continental drifter? Having announced her pregnancy in the pilot, the gang rallies around their newly repatriated friend as she makes an appointment for an abortion. In response, Jessa grows prickly and quick to a fight. Im not the ladies! she insists when Shoshanna offers advice from her ...
